Why it is made this way
Unglazed stoneware is porous, so an unglazed vase either leaks or is decorative only. This one is glazed on the interior alone — the pour is done by hand with the vessel inverted, which is fiddly and occasionally fails, so about one in nine is rejected at this stage. The exterior stays raw, which means it will take on marks and slowly darken where it is handled.
