Why it is made this way
A ring is difficult to throw and straightforward to build in slabs, which is why this piece is made the second way — two pressed halves joined at a seam that is deliberately left legible around the outer edge. The exterior is unglazed so the grog reads as texture under a hand; the interior is sealed with a clear liner glaze, because unglazed stoneware holding water will eventually weep through onto whatever it is standing on. That is a failure we shipped once, in 2020, and corrected.
