Why it is made this way
A metal shade colours the light it reflects, which is why so many copper pendants throw an orange pool onto a table and make food look strange. The interior of this one is powder-coated in a flat chalk white measured at 92% reflectance, so the light leaving the shade is the light the lamp made. The outside stays raw copper and patinates. It is a slightly dishonest object in that its inside and outside disagree, and it is the only way to have the material without the colour cast.
