Why it is made this way
Foam collapses. It is cheap, comfortable on day one, and measurably worse every year after. This chair uses a natural latex core over a horsehair pad, which is roughly four times the material cost and holds its shape for decades rather than years. The recline is fixed at 14° because an adjustable mechanism would add a moving part to a chair with none, and 14° is the angle at which the lumbar support does its work without making the chair hard to leave.
